soccerThe Algonquin Barons and the West Ferris Trojans are the local representatives as North Bay hosts the OFSAA Boys “A” and “AA” soccer championships, starting today (Thursday).

West Ferris plays in the “AA:” loop, with their first game against a school from Courtice at noon.

Head Coach Mike Tignanelli says their players don’t have a lot of OFSAA experience, but he says that might be a bonus for his young team.

He says “I think they are somewhat naive about it and I think that’s to our benefit quite frankly. We will play a very defensive type of game, and they know they are in for a great experience.”

Algonquin‘s first game in the “A” tournament is against Hawkesbury at noon.

The games are being played at various fields throughout the city, with the banquet tonight at Memorial Gardens.
