North Bay Police logoNorth Bay and West Nipissing Police have combined efforts on a fraud related investigation. Police say two people were charged on the weekend in Sturgeon Falls.  A 36 year old male has been charged with a count of fraud under 5 thousand dollars and a 26 year old female has been charged with a count of fraud over 5 thousand dollars.  Police say a male knowingly deposited fraudulent cheques written by a female into his North Bay bank account.

Police say the cheques totalled over 5200 dollars. 

Police allege the man then withdrew cash totalling over 4 thousand dollars from the same account.

Meantime, .A 32 year old city man is facing several charges after a weekend incident. The man has been charged with extortion, sexual assault, uttering threats and breach.

Police say a male of no fixed address went to a woman’s residence and told her she would have to steal for him or face the results of threats he made to her.

It’s alleged the woman was sexually assaulted after she refused to obey his order.

Police say the abuse stopped before the victim stole anything.

Police say the woman also received another threat.  The name of the accused isn’t being released to protect the identity of the victim.

Also, a busy weekend for North Bay Police with 225 calls for service. 12 people were arrested for various offenses including fraud over 5 thousand dollars, fraud under five thousand dollars, sexual assault, extortion, utterring threats, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, impaired driving, public intoxication, mischief under 5 thousand dollars, obstruct police officer and assault police officer.

and North Bay Police say they had a successful auction on the weekend.  Police say they raised over 67 hundred dollars and that money wil go to the Police Services Board which will spend the money on donations to local charities and events. Police say the auction had 150 registered bidders and 170 property items and 70 bikes were sold.
