While it’s milder now, the recent bout of cold weather, plus all the snow we’ve had, has some people deciding now is the time to get away.

That’s the word from Chris Mayne from Mayne Travel, “for a lot of the agencies in town this year, I think what they really wanted for Christmas was a week of 20-below, so thank-you Santa, the cold weather is making a lot of people decide to get out of town that otherwise might have sat on the fence a bit longer.”

He says over the holidays the popular destinations include those where the best value is, “Dominican Republic, this time of the year, tends to be a bit warmer so that’s still popular. There’s a program from North Bay to Cuba again that’s been doing well”.

Mayne adds a lot of people like the idea of getting on a plane and being on the beach in five hours.

He also says Mexico is coming back a little bit while Honduras and Panama are developing as new resort areas.
