A council committee will continue the discussion around winter maintenance and parking restrictions.

A report came forward at last week’s meeting that called for the on-street overnight parking ban, which runs from 3 am to 6 am, to be extended to 8 am.

At the meeting, Bylaw Enforcement Coordinator Ron Melnyk explained the issue they’re running into after six o’clock in the morning, “what we tend to see is vehicles start to block up the streets, or back out of driveways on to the street and when that happens the snow clearing operations, the snow plows aren’t able to get down many of the streets, especially cul-de-sac streets that tend to be cleared after the main streets are done.”

Meantime, a number of other communities run until either 7 am or 7:30 am, with some councillors pointing out they’d like to see the motion amended to 7 am instead of 8 o’clock.

The issue remains on the committee file.
