Your votes are in and the Top Local News Story of 2016, according to our informal poll, is the Syrian families arriving in the area.

The story garnered 20 per cent of the vote.

At number two was the film industry continuing to boom in North Bay.

That story received 15 per cent of the 133 votes cast.

A close third with 14 per cent was the variety of Council issues, everything from the Dionne Quints home to a casino, a successful Summer In The Park and plenty of new construction around the city.

Next was the Energy East Pipeline proposal followed by a former local sports reporter being charged in that beer tossing incident at Rogers Centre.
