The bypass in North Bay is back open after a fatal collision earlier today (Friday).

OPP say the preliminary investigation revealed a southbound car was rear-ended by a southbound vehicle, causing the car to enter into the northbound lane where it was struck by a northbound vehicle.

The driver of the car, a 79 year old man from North Bay, was taken to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The driver and the passenger of the northbound vehicle suffered minor injuries and were also taken to hospital.

The roadway was closed for about two and a half hours between Cassells and O’Brien, with plenty of traffic backing up on streets in that area during the closure.

The investigation continues.
