The North Bay Police Services Board has passed their 2016 budget.

It calls for a 3.6 % increase over last year.

Chief Shawn Devine says they found $70,000 in savings to lower the increase.

He says $50,000 came from the Vested Sick account which involves sick days for retired staff that still has to be paid out.

Devine says this year the board won’t be putting money into the account.

The other money around $20,000 is being saved through less budgeted funds for fuel.

Meantime, you will notice a 1 % increase for various city police fees.

Devine says the size of the increase is based on the size of the wage increase for employees. Devine says this is cost recovery and the increase is based on the amount of time employees spend on preparing the documents.

The fees include criminal record checks, civil court documents and individual accident or incident reports.

Devine says for a complete list of the fees go to their web site.
