Some changes are on the way for Rexall in Sturgeon Falls.

Approval for McKesson Corporation’s $2.9-billion acquisition of Rexall Health was given in late December.

About 470 retail pharmacies are being acquired, with the divestment of stores in 26 markets that the Competition Bureau identified during its review of the transaction.

A December release from the Competition Bureau says the Sturgeon Falls location is one of those 26 to be sold off.

The following statement from McKesson Canada was provided to our newsroom:

“We are pleased to have received regulatory approval from the Competition Bureau of Canada. Together, McKesson and Rexall Health will continue to deliver choice and access, integrated pharmacy care and industry-leading service levels.

When conducting its review of McKesson’s acquisition of Rexall Health, the Competition Bureau of Canada identified 26 local markets where McKesson is required to divest Rexall stores to new owners. Divestitures of this nature are standard in transactions of this size.  We are committed to maintaining the current levels of employment throughout the sale of these pharmacies and ensuring that Canadians enjoy access, service, and the quality experience they have come to know and trust.”

The Competition Bureau release also says stores in Englehart and Iroquois Falls are to be sold.
