gasInfrastructure projects in Nipissing have been benefiting from federal gas tax funding, to the tune of $4.3 million in 2014-15.

MP Jay Aspin says the Gas Tax Fund has been helping communities finance projects like bridges, roads, waste water treatment plants, energy infrastructure, recreation and community facilities.

He goes on to says since the fund was implemented the total received in Nipissing has reached $33-million.

Aspin says, “The Gas Tax Fund continues to be a key support program for municipalities providing them with direct and predictable financial assistance to undertake priority infrastructure projects”.

Meantime, he says the government amended the fund in 2011 to be permanent and began the transfer of $2 billion every year to municipalities.

He also says eligibility has been broadened so that projects involving airports, recreation, culture, broadband, sports and tourism are now included.
