City Council is looking at a proposal to increasing ice rental rates this year and next year.

The bylaw governing these rates automatically increases every year by 3 per cent which reflects the cost of doing business.

Melinda Fry is manager of sports and events for the city.

She says there is an increase beyond that being proposed.

This proposal will add 4 dollars an hour over a two year period beyond the 3 per cent increase.

Under the proposal there would be just two time slots and they are prime time from 4 to midnight and weekends and non prime time from 6 am to 4 pm amd Midnight to 2 am on weekdays.

If approved the rates would increase on June 1st for this year and April 1st for next year.

Fry says they did consult with users and they received some good ideas including on line booking, making their web site more user friendly and schedule adjustments during the season once coaches get their schedules.

The proposal is still before community services.
