The North Bay Granite Club hosted the 2016 Northern Ontario Men’s curling championships last week and the event was a big success.

Each club gets a chance to host the event every 10 to 20 years and Granite Club GM Bobby Ray says the response they received from the local community was amazing.

“We’re extremely happy about it,” said Ray who said they had nothing but great responses for the big curling event.

“People are buying tickets, people sponsoring the event and it couldn’t be better.”

Media Relations spokesperson Dave Bennett says they had big crowds at the Granite Club and officials say the event was great for the city too — pointing out people were going out in the community and spending money too.

The Brad Jacobs rink from Sault Ste Marie won the local event and will represent Northern Ontario next month in Ottawa at the Brier.
