American sexologist Dr. Justine Shuey spoke to students at Nipissing University last night (Wednesday).

She spoke on a wide range of issues including healthy sexual relationships, communicating with your partner and the importance of consent.

Dr. Shuey says consent needs to be affirmative, enthusiastic, clear and ongoing.

She says coherent means that one person isn’t under the influence of alcohol and ongoing means consent throughout the relationship.

Dr. Shuey says consent is a conversation that people need to have.

The talk was presented by the Nipissing University Student Union and student development and services department, in an effort to help students deal with healthy relationships and sex.
