The North Bay and Area Community Foundation was handing out cheques on Thursday-$44,000 worth.

Executive Director Kate Merritt-Dupelle says the money was raised by their annual fundraising dinner and contributions from community members.

She says 11 organizations in all are receiving funds.

The individual amounts vary from $2,000 to $8,400 for PADDLE.

She says a couple of organizations stand out including the Camp Tilicum renewal project which gets $5,000 and the North Bay YMCA which also receives $5,000 for its gymnastics program. .

Other recipients of note include the North Bay Granite Curling Club, The Capitol Centre and The Alzheimer Society. She says they don’t do a lot of fundraising except for their annual dinner so they’re not competing against some of the organizations they recognized on Thursday. Merritt-Dupelle says the dinner date is Friday May 5th. Merritt-Dupelle says if you are interested in going tickets are $100 and you can contact any board member for information.
