curling granite club8 rinks compete to represent Northern Ontario at the 2016 Tim Horton’s Brier.

Media Liaison Dave Bennett says they can’t wait for the games to get underway at the North Bay Granite Club for the 2016 Travelers Insurance Northern Ontario Men’s Curling Championship.

Bennett says the event is virtually sold out and there will be lots of benefits for the city.

He says they expect over 200 fans per game, which should have a positive economic impact for the city.

Bennett says the fan response has been excellent so far and with a local rink from Mattawa (the Gelinas Rink) competing there is lots of excitement in that community as well.

Draw one is set for 2 pm.

The match-ups include Team Jacobs, the defending Olympic Gold medalists from the Soo, taking on Sudbury’s Team Horgan.

Meantime, Mattawa’s Team Gelinas plays Thunder Bay’s Team Koivula.

Team Gelinas takes on Team Jacobs in Draw two at 8 pm.

The event’s opening ceremonies take place at 7 pm.
