Canadore facilityShawn Chorney says enrollment numbers are looking good as the semester came to an end.

The Vice President of Enrollment and Student Services at Canadore College says they have had an increase from the first to the second semester of this school year.

He says they were down in domestic students in the fall, but have closed the gap and are now 60 above the initial registration number.

Chorney also says last year they had planned on having 230 international students, but in March they had 456 registered.

He says it’s through special training programs and strong partnerships that those numbers will continue to grow.

He adds the partnerships through the Study North Initiative have paid off.

This allows the six northern colleges to collaborate on ways to bring students north.

Chorney says they have recruiters on the ground in Toronto supplementing the Canadore based recruiters.

He says that has helped them reach out to 250 additional high schools.

Chorney says now the focus is on finding job placements in the area so that once they are finished being students they stay and contribute to our region.
