A local ceremony marking the anniversary of the Battle of the Atlantic is taking place today (Sunday).

The longest running military campaign of World War II lasted from 1939 to 1945.

Royal Canadian Air and Naval Forces fought to keep German U-Boats and planes from attacking merchant ships that were carrying supplies to the Allied forces fighting in Europe.

To commemorate the lives lost during the battle, a ceremony is taking place at Legion Branch 23 at 1 pm.

Depending on the weather, the event will either take place outside or inside.
