Jobless figure the same in the last month but employment is down

The jobless figure was virtually unchanged in the North Bay area last month. 

Stats Canada says unemployment was 5.9 percent in January. 

That’s up 0.2 percent compared with  January 2015, but the difference is within the margin of error so it’s deemed not statistically significant. 

Employment, meantime, is down nearly 11 percent. 

It was 49.5 percent in January, compared to 60.4 the year before. 

The numbers involve the City of North Bay, Bonfield, Callander and East Ferris.
