North Bay PoliceTracking where the city’s crime takes place could have both positive and negative effects for the community.

It’s something Deputy Police Chief Scott Tod says has been touched on briefly within the Police Services Board.

He says Crime Mapping alone may be a failure because it could inappropriately identify areas that may or may not have a crime problem.

He adds keeping data updated would be a necessary requirement.

On the positive side he says there are communities who have a crime map and he says they indicate the police activity, where it’s happening and what the outcomes are.

Tod says it is utilized to find ways to better protect the community.

Tod says nothing is concrete yet and more discussions are coming up on the subject.
