ReCycle bikes program helping children in need get bikes

From now until April 22nd Discover Routes is looking for bikes in good repair to donate to children in need.

After a successful event last year, they’re once again collecting bikes to donate.  Discovery Routes is teaming up with the YMCA North Bay and the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit for the initiative.

The bikes will be restored by volunteers then used in local bike rodeos and safety training, then donated to area kids.

In exchange for each donated bike in good condition, donors will receive a $25 charitable tax receipt.

Last year 15 bikes were refurbished and donated back into the community.

Bikes can be donated by bringing them to the YMCA on Chippewa Street up until April 22nd.

Of note, officials say Discovery Routes is unable to accept children’s bikes that are extremely rusty or broken as they are too costly for our organization to repair to a standard that is reusable.
