Quite the achievement for local Special Olympian Carley Tucker.

As a part of the North Bay Sports Awards, she will be receiving first annual Special Olympics Award of Excellence this spring.

Tucker says she didn’t even know she was nominated or being considered for this award and had tears of excitement after the phone call.

Tucker’s Principal at Widdifield is Lisa O’Kane and she says Tucker really exemplifies the Special Olympics motto “Let me win, but if I cannot win let me be brave in the attempt.”

She says this was evident during the provincial games held in North Bay last year, in which Tucker competed in snowshoeing in almost minus 30 degree weather.

The awards ceremony is on May 7th.
