_20151221_172127?An eight hour closure for West Ferris Arena on Wednesday.

The building was temporarily closed because of snow on the roof, but reopened at 4pm.

Back in December officials announced if there’s an accumulation of 150 mm of snow or more on the barrel roof at West Ferris Arena, programming at the facility would be suspended until the snow melts or is removed.

That was the result of a preliminary report from the engineers completing a Condition Assessment of the city’s arenas.

Officials said at the time the move was being done out of an abundance of caution.

Meantime, city public works crews were busy clearing city streets all day on Wednesday.

This after a major snowfall overnight Tuesday followed by freezing rain.

Chair of Engineering and Works, Councillor Tanya Vrebosch says a full compliment got started at 4 am on Wednesday.

She says they were focusing on major arteries until the temperature warmed up, then they tackled the side streets.

A freezing rain warning for the North Bay area ended mid-afternoon on Wednesday.
