The federal government says it’s going to be quite the celebration next year when this country turns 150.

The Minister of Canadian Heritage is Melanie Joly.

She says there is a fund so that communities can have local projects that celebrate our heritage.

She says there are four categories to tap into this money. The projects must be on our place in the world, the environment, our shared achievements and our shared values.

In last week’s budget MP Anthony Rota says Ontario’s share of this fund received an extra $50-million and the northern Ontario part of that will be distributed by FEDNOR.

Rota says he remembers a previous major celebration when Canada turned a century old.

He says he was a young boy in 1967 and the country was very proud and come next year Canada will be 50 years prouder.
