Ontario - Open MaleA couple local cadets are back from the recent National Cadet Biathlon Championship in Valcartier, Quebec.

17 year old Markus Kelusky and 16 year old Francois Charron and are members of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets 547 Canuck Squadron.

They were among 20 biathletes from Ontario that won the Biathlon Canada Award for sports etiquette.

They won the award based on nominations by other provincial teams, the competition and support staff.

Three years ago, Francois had never skied in his life. He joined cadets and was introduced to biathlon. “My first thought was that I would never be good at this sport,” says Charron.
“I joined the ski team at school as well as trained hard with my partner. I still didn’t think I was good enough but I was surprised to find myself in second place at provincials and to be part of the Ontario team at nationals.”

Kelusky joined cadets when he was 12 years old and decided to try optional activities like biathlon. “Competing every year since I was 12 has bettered my performance in biathlon. I have been to provincials but this was my first time at a national competition. What a wonderful experience but hard work and a couple lucky breaks got me to where I am now”.
