Deputy Mayor Sheldon Forgette says they came in with a $670,000 surplus.

He says the reasons include not filling available staff positions, lower fuel costs and reduced overtime.

Among the departments reporting surpluses are corporate services, engineering and environmental services, community services and the fire department.

The General Government came in at a $725,000 deficit.

The surplus will be divvied up in a number of areas including the tax rate stabilization reserve and the contingency reserve.

As well, 43 Capital projects were completed. 37 came in with a surplus while the other 6 reported being in deficit situations.
