(File Photo) The North Bay Snowmobile Club says their trails are now officially closed.

On Thursday the club said they would be closing in a couple days, but they had to be shut down immediately for safety reasons.

Officials say there are areas with extensive flooding, that are very hazardous, combined with plowed roadways by loggers and utilities that have no snow on them.

North Bay Snowmobile Club Public Relations Director Shawn Flindall says the season lasted 8 weeks.

He says a typical season is about 10 to 12 weeks, so this shortened season is having an economic impact on the area.

He points out the average out of town snowmobiler spends $300 a day.

Last year’s season was 14 weeks.
