Labour Market GroupThere are jobs out there but the difficulty is linking those looking for work to the available jobs, says Stacie Fiddler.

She is the Executive Director of the Labour Market Group and she their latest study shows close to 300 job vacancies in the region on a monthly basis.

Fiddler says one aspect leading to this could be in the rising use of social media and a disconnect between generations. She says Employers in the labour market haven’t changed as they still expect the face to face interactions, especially when hiring and she says “I’m not sure if that’s communicated to the younger demographic.”

Fiddler presented this report to council last night (Monday).

Deputy Mayor Sheldon Forgette says he’s not surprised to see a high number of vacancies.

He says the Baylor Survey recently showed some of this information to.

Forgette says job vacancies can be a good recruiting tool for the area and from a council standpoint they need to continue to build up their economic development department and support businesses the best way they can.
