NEW opp policeThe message from OPP and the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs this Provincial Snowmobile Safety Week is for snowmobilers to focus on their own personal safety and the well-being of others.

This after Powassan OPP were called around 3:30 am Saturday about an overdue person on a snow machine.

Police say they were told the person went out Friday at 10:45 pm in a snowstorm with their destination about an hour away.  OPP were called when the person, described as an experienced driver did not arrive.

A search was started, then it was reported to police that the man had been located.  He reportedly fell through some ice and used a screwdriver to claw himself out of the water.   He then went to the nearest residence and called for help.

 

Copper theft in Mattawan Township

Mattawa OPP are reporting the theft of 48 rolls of copper and a Honda 3000 generator.

They were taken from a building on Orig Road, Mattawan Township, sometime overnight on January 14th.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
