Anthony Rota Deputy Assistant Speaker

MP Anthony Rota says there are plenty of highlights from the first session of Parliament for the new Trudeau Government.

He says there’s a better overall tone and collaboration in the house, more respect with indigenous issues, the retirement age where CPP kicks in is back to 65 instead of 67 while a local highlight includes funding for a variety of programs, including research and youth summer employment.

Rota also points out he’s thrilled with his new role as assistant deputy speaker.

Meantime, he says he is looking to see more infrastructure funding flow locally, “I’ve been consulting with local stakeholders, our communities and mayors to make sure that phase two of the infrastructure program reflects what we have in communities in Nipissing-Timiskaming.”

With economic development, Rota says he’s working with the Defence Minister to make sure the base is well represented and that expansion can happen when opportunities arise.

A town hall on the defence policy review will take place July 6th in North Bay with a session on climate change July 13th and another town hall involving the Canada Post review on July 20th.
