Officials report a project that one successful job applicant calls a ‘hand up, rather than a hand-out’ will be continuing after it’s first year.

North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce VP of Policy & Communications Patti Carr says the goal of the 100 Jobs/Get Trained Workers program was to place 100 people in jobs by January 31st.

“We were very pleased that come mid-December we had placed 108 people in employment from the Get Trained Workers caseload,” she says.

Carr says Get Trained Workers, which provides employment opportunities for those that have been on Ontario Works, has been operating for about ten years.

The 100 jobs aspect new for last year.

“Very much a good news story, we’re continuing on, so it’s not done by any means,” she says. “It was to go to January 31st, we are getting an extension on that and hopefully we’ll have lots more good news in the future.”

Of the 108 jobs, 55 were full-time while 42 were part-time and the rest were contract employment.

74 companies were involved.
