Twice a year, Canadian residents can fish in Ontario without buying a fishing licence and this week is one of them.

The licence-free period runs until July 10th.

Officials do say you still have to follow the rules including catch and size limits and follow the fishing regulations.

The week is all about reminding people about Ontario’s recreational fishery, and the importance of keeping it healthy for future generations.

There are local events today (Saturday) in Lavigne and South River.

Next weekend, on July 10th there are events in Powassan and Chisholm.
