Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board

The 2016-17 budget at the Nipissing-Parry Sound Catholic District School Board has been finalized.

The board has approved the $46.5-million fiscal plan, including $43.6-million dollars in estimated operating costs.

Officials say the budget focuses on programs and services that directly benefit students and is compliant with the Education Ministry’s balanced budget legislation.

There are several areas of focus including new and continued programs and services aligned with Ontario’s Well-Being strategy for education, a new pilot program and hiring an additional full time social worker.

“The Board is pleased to approve the 2016/2017 budget,” says Board Chair, Barbara McCool. “Our commitment to provide students with quality Catholic education is reflected in the exciting new programing and services we will continue to offer and expand in our schools in the 2016-2017 school year,” she says.

There’s also the board’s renewed Kindergarten to grade 12 Math strategy and First Nation Metis and Inuit education action plan with the expansion of Native as a Second Language.

The Advanced Placement program at St. Joseph-Scollard Hall will also broaden to include both senior Biology and French as a 2nd Language.

“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, we thank our administration and staff for their hard work in bringing forward another fiscally responsible budget,” says McCool. “We look forward to another exciting year ahead.”
