The next meeting of the North Bay Waterfront Development Committee is today and they’ll be talking about the location and cost of a proposed splash pad for North Bay.

Chair of the Community Services Committee Councillor Mark King says there are two proposed locations.

One is near the Discovery North Bay Museum while the other is close to King’s Landing.

“Based on some of the discussions I’ve had with some of the committee members the majority seem to favor the area adjacent to the museum as I do,” he says.

As for cost, King says there was an original estimate of $1.7 million.

“That actually involved an artificial ice surface on that particular pad that would be used for 4 seasons. It’s not the committee’s intention to move in that direction in any way, shape or form,” he says.

King says he doesn’t expect that much of a difference in the cost with the two locations.

City staff will be hand to answer any questions for committee members.
