Last week he posted a 3-0 record with a goals-against-average of 1.28 and save percentage of .944.

His play between the pipes has helped the Troops enter the Holiday Break as one of the league’s hottest teams with five-straight wins and a hold on third place in the Central Division with 37 points.

On Thursday night Smith made 26 saves and earned second star honours in a 2-1 overtime victory against the Mississauga Steelheads, then turned aside 19 shots on Friday in another 2-1 overtime victory this time edging the Niagara IceDogs.

His week wrapped up Saturday with a 23-save performance as second star of a 5-2 road win over the Barrie Colts.

A 20-year-old from Oakville, Smith is playing in his fourth OHL season with the Battalion after being a ninth round pick by the club in the 2011 OHL Priority Selection.

So far this season the overage netminder carries a 13-8-1-0 record with a goals-against-average of 2.76 and save percentage of .897.
