cogen 2The North Bay Regional Health Centre has its own Co-generation Power Plant and it is up and running.

The 6.5 Million Dollar project is a partnership between the hospital and North Bay Hydro.

President and C.O.O. of North Bay Hydro Todd Wilcox says the project came in on time and on budget and has a operating lifetime of 20 years.

He says this unit which generates electricity and hot water will meet the hospitals needs for years to come.

Infact, Wilcox  says it provides enough power to heat 1350 homes and is much more efficient than the grid.

Hospital officials say the unit will provide up to 85 per cent back up power which is crucial for patient care during emergencies.
