Chamber of Commerce

The provincial government is currently undertaking a review of changing workplaces in Ontario.

An interim report has been issued and the executive director of the North Bay and District Chamber of Commerce, Patti Carr, says they are not in favour of a one-size fits all approach, as the interim report is recommending.

She says employers and employees should work out the issues for themselves.

Carr says the report is looking at many options including labour certification rules, scheduling provisions and employment sector exemptions.

The local chamber is aligned with leading employer groups and the provincial chamber in opposition to some of the things in the interim report.

Carr says the Ontario Chamber wants to keep Ontario working and they don’t want policies that negatively affect that.

She says they aren’t against change, per say, as they recommend the relationship between workers and businesses has changed as part time work and shift work has become more common.
