Of the 337 people spotted in a vessel on the water this past weekend in the area, OPP and BAYSAR say only 81 were wearing a Personal Floatation Device.

That’s 24 percent.

It’s down from the 38 percent last year.

The annual campaign saw BAYSAR Search and Rescue float planes flying over Lake Nipissing, Trout Lake, Turtle Lake, Lake Talon and Lake Nosbonsing last Saturday.

This year, while patrolling the waters, Cst. Marvin Miller, North Bay Ontario Provincial Police, rewarded a father, Carl Miller (pictured above) and daughter, Halle Miller who were wearing their lifejackets, with a BAYSAR flight.
