A sweet tradition returns to Powassan tomorrow (Saturday).

The 21st annual Powassan Maple Syrup Festival runs from 9 am to 4 pm.

Chair Roger Glabb says the popularity of the event has grown since he came on board 16 years ago.

“When I first started it averaged between 5,000 to 7,000 and now we’re over 20,000 people,” he says.

There’s lumberjack shows, sheep-shearing demonstrations, tours of the sugar bush and of course, plenty of vendors set up too.

“It’s always been a free event, you bring the kids, it’s the first event of the spring. I think this is one of the reasons why we’ve grown,” Glabb says.

There is a cost for the various pancake breakfasts.
