PiT Count

More information has been compiled involving a Point In Time Count earlier this year to survey the homeless population in North Bay.

Back in June, officials said that 30 people were absolutely homeless while 119 were hidden or at-risk of homelessness.

98 surveys were completed.

The top three reasons for housing loss were addiction or substance abuse, illness or medical condition and domestic abuse.

Barriers to finding housing were listed as low income, rent being too high and addictions.

In terms of demographics, 70 percent said their income source was disability benefits or social assistance. 72 percent are single adults.

In terms of gender, it was split pretty much 50-50 between male and female.

43 percent were adults ages 40 to 64 and 38 percent were 25 to 39.

Services that are needed include mental health, addictions or substance abuse and physical or learning disability services.
