From Sunday’s Hike for Hospice to Community Emergency Preparedness Day on Saturday, there’s plenty on the go this weekend.

Safeguarding against wild fires and being prepared for community emergencies is the focus of an open house tomorrow (Saturday).

North Bay Fire and Emergency Services, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry and the Canadian Red Cross are holding the event from 10 am to 3 pm at 40 Voodoo Cres.

Along with Smokey the Bear and Sparky, there will be firefighting equipment, a helicopter and fire trucks, demonstrations, handouts and more.

 

The fifth annual TP North Bay campaign is underway.

Officials are collecting toilet paper for area food banks.

The goal is to collect 20,000 rolls this month.

A spaghetti dinner fundraiser is taking place tomorrow night (Saturday) to help out a local family.

Natalie Daoust has Cystic Fibrosis and is in need of a double lung transplant, with the family needing to relocate to Toronto.

The fundraiser and silent auction goes from 3-7 pm at Algonquin.

 

An ‘Everyday Hero Gala’ is taking place tomorrow at the Sundridge Legion.

The Almaguin Highlands Community Policing Committee is hosting the event which starts at 5:30 pm.

They’re honouring everyday heroes like police officers, firefighters, paramedics, doctors, nurses and anyone that has given of themselves to help in an emergency.

 

The 2018 Hike for Hospice goes Sunday morning in North Bay.

It’s the biggest fundraiser of the year for the Nipissing Serenity Hospice.

Officials say $70,000 was raised last year and they’re looking to better than this year.

The hike takes place in Laurier Woods.

Registration on Sunday is at 10 am, followed by the hike at 11 am.
