MADD officer of the yearA four year veteran of the North Bay Police Service has been named as the MADD Officer of the Year.

Mothers Against Drunk Driving gives out this annual award to the local officer who makes the most impaired arrests throughout the year.

This year Constable Blake Vietmeier made 8 arrests for impaired driving and says he’s honored to received the award, but adds there is still lots of work to be done.

He says “We’re routinely setting up RIDE checks; it’s something a lot of members on my platoon feel passionately about. Drinking and Driving is something, in my view, is a selfish decision. It means someone putting their own convenience above the safety of the general public.”

Between November 30th 2014 and December 1st of 2015 there were 68 arrests overall. That’s down from 71 in 2014.
